Family Friendly Restaurants in San Antonio, Texas
Howdy from San Antonio, Texas! Because the Army is the Army and anything can happen, our family had the pleasure of living in Texas for just shy of 1 glorious
month. My husband went on TDY for a school at Lackland Air Force Base and the baby and I tagged along because what’s family travel without the family? Although he was busy with school, we took every chance we got to fall in love with Texas and indulge in good San Antonio food while we were there. Being the Foodie that I am and knowing that y’all loved the Orlando Food Guide so much, I decided to find some of the BEST mouth watering Family Friendly Restaurants in San Antonio, Texas to share. If you ever find yourself in south central Texas, don’t cheat yo self…treat yourself!

The Guenther House: Family- friendly restauranats in san antonio,Texas
Breakfast is the MOST important meal of the day and also my favorite. I don’t know about you but I can literally eat it at any time of the day. Starting the day with a delicious breakfast just sets the tone for the rest of the day and The Guenther House did NOT disappoint! As usual, I went after the Belgian waffle with fresh berries but this is NOT your traditional Americanized Belgian Waffle. This sweet cream waffle made from San Antonio River Mill Brand was PERFECTION. It was light, fluffy and flavorful. The bacon was also perfectly crispy (and now I’m hungry).
My husband enjoyed the 1851 Breakfast platter which has all your favorite breakfast items (A Fluffy Biscuit, Pioneer Country Gravy with Crumbled Sausage, Applewood Bacon, A Sausage Patty, Seasoned Breakfast Potatoes and Eggs). To add, we enjoyed the scenery by eating outside the historic mansion so if weather permits, you’ll want to request a table under the awning for a nice brunch setting. Also, don’t leave without trying the Strawberry lemonade. It was quite possibly the best strawberry lemonade I’ve ever had and I am a self-proclaimed strawberry lemonade connoisseur so trust me!
Tony G’s Soul food: Family-friendly RESTAURANTS in san antonio,Texas
Speaking of Brunch, if you’re in San Antonio for just the weekend, there is something you MUST Do! Run..don’t walk to Tony G’s Soul Food for Sunday brunch. Tony G’s Soul Food restaurant has a Brunch/Lunch buffet bar every Sunday with a live jazz band and it’s phenomenal. For the Brunch lovers, you have a selection of traditional breakfast items to choose from like waffles, bacon, sausage/Chorizo, eggs, grits, biscuits and fruit. On the other side, there’s an amazing soul food Sunday options like fried catfish, fried chicken, collard greens, Mac and cheese, brisket and more. The best part of this restaurant is the fact that you don’t have to choose. For one price (approx $22 per person) you can enjoy an all you can eat breakfast, lunch AND dessert bar . The price is hefty but it’s so worth it!
Bud’s Southern Rotisserie: Family- friendly RESTAURANTS in san antonio,Texas
Bud’s Southern Rotisserie is located in the Historic Pearl District of Downtown San Antonio. From the outside, you’ll think that there are only Indi shops in the area but if you never step foot in the Old bottling department food court then you’re missing out on a true gem. Bud’s serves a cajun style rotisserie chicken sure to make your tastebuds dance. You can choose to keep it light for lunch and order a chicken sandwich or a small meal, or you can treat your entire family of 4 for $36 dollars (You get a whole chicken and 4 cajun sides). The cajun cornbread is also worth mentioning with its sweet and savory flavors.
Fletcher’s Hamburgers: Family- friendly RESTAURANTS in san antonio,Texas
As if you needed another reason to visit the beautiful Historic Pearl District, Fletcher’s and Bud’s are neighbors! They are situated side by side in the Bottling company food court. Fletcher’s Hamburgers serves one of the juiciest hamburgers you’ll ever have. What makes it special? The 7oz beef patty, fletcher’s special sauce and the light and delicious challah bun. I personally added bacon and cheese because I believe they both should go on everything (Holla if you hear me bacon and cheese lovers).
They also have other must try specialties like the Nutella shake for all the Nutella lovers out there and yummy loaded fries! My fries came with dare I say again, cheese and bacon!! I have zero regrets of enjoying my mid day shopping lunch break at Fletchers.
Mi Tierra Cafe’ Y Panaderia: Family- friendly RESTAURANTS in san antonio,Texas
When you think of MUST see San Antonio landmarks you should think of three things: The Alamo, The Riverwalk and Mi Tierra. If not for the delicious food, you wouldn’t want to miss the fiesta atmosphere. Mi Tierra dates back from 1941 is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. It’s the ultimate Family- Friendly Restaurants in San Antonio, Texas and the atmosphere is always a party.
There are so many aspects of this restaurant to love. They are open 24 hours 7 days a week ALWAYS so anytime of the day you crave this authentic Tex Mex, you’re welcome to come. Speaking of authentic, the warm tortillas for fajitas and made from scratch chips and salsa will make you feel like you’re at your abuelita’s house even if you don’t have an abuelita. It’s so yummy! Also, there is a live mariachi to add to the authentic south of the boarder feeling.
Smoke Shack: Family-friendly RESTAURANTS in san antonio,Texas
We could not come to Texas and not have BBQ! I was ready for some sweet and savory BBQ sauce and good southern sides and Smoke Shack gave me just that. You know it’s going to be good when you smell it from the outside. I enjoyed the Pulled Pork (which I rejoiced over because I only eat pork on occasion) with Mac and Cheese which has subtle pieces of brisket and collard greens. Although this is a great place to go for dinner, everyone else things so too. It is best to go early as possible so you don’t miss their specialties like we did. On my next visit, I am dying to try the fried catfish, famous banana pudding and Ribs.
Acenar Hot Mex Cool bar: Family-friendly RESTAURANTS in san antonio,Texas
We stumbled upon Acenar on complete accident. After a very long and very tiring day of walking around downtown San Antonio, we returned to the Riverwalk in search of the Best Tacos available. After a quick search on Yelp we chose Acenar and it’s safe to say that you must stop here for dinner on the Riverwalk! This is not your traditional Mexican restaurant, Acenar is much more modern and relaxed but the food is absolutely amazing.
They offer tacos with a twist! My husband enjoyed the Pork Tacos while I devoured the Crab Tacos. Crab tacos were a first for me but it was so juicy and flavorful that I doubt I will enjoy a regular taco again (I will but I’ll pretend it’s from Acenar). Oh, and ask to take chips and salsa home…you will not regret it! This restaurant also has one of San Antonio’s most scenic views of the Riverwalk so it’s perfect for a family gathering or a hot date night.
Smashin’ Crab: Family-friendly RESTAURANTS in san antonio,Texas
Saving my favorite for last because this place holds a special place in my heart. Did you know that besides Mexican and BBQ, Texas also has pretty darn good seafood? Oh Texas, you’re such a show off! Smashin’ Crab is far out from the tourist area of San Antonio but so worth the drive that you should thank me later for suggesting it. Smashin’ Crab is THE best seafood crab boil restaurant in San Antonio and you would literally be doing yourself a disservice by not going. For market price you can get amazing buckets of crab, shrimp, crawfish and more with sausage, corn and potatoes to accompany it. This is legit low county crab boil so bring your stretchy pants, leave your priss and proper and get ready to indulge in garlic buttery goodness. My mouth is watering as I type!
