The Bricktown district of Oklahoma City was first established in 1889 as a result of land run like much of Oklahoma .
What was the Oklahoma railroad station that brought thousands of settlers into the American west soon became appealing to farmers and other settlers who sought to create a new life and town that they could call home . This move catapulted economic growth into the area .
Surprisingly, this historic area of the city has played a major role in the history and fabric of Oklahoma City . It has been the stage for the fight for civil rights of African Americans and other minorities in the city as well as contributed greatly to economics and wealth within the state of Oklahoma .
Over the years , locals to Oklahoma City have witnessed the Bricktown neighborhood shift from a historic warehouse district to a world class entertainment complex for locals and tourists .

Bricktown-Oklahoma City Today
Today, Bricktown OKC is notable for its charming nod to the past and immersion of the modern and upbeat Oklahoma City future .
Over $350 million dollars was spent in the past few years to revitalize Downtown Oklahoma City including the bricktown neighborhood into what we see today .
So, If you’re traveling to Oklahoma City; it is worth spending at-least a day in this neighborhood.
How to get around Bricktown OKC
The Bricktown neighborhood is not large and very walkable in nature . Regardless of what hotel you choose in the area ,most of those available hotels are within walking distance of restaurants, bars and other Oklahoma City attractions .
There are also a variety of modes of transportation. In Bricktown and much of the downtown Oklahoma City area, you will find many people choosing to take the downtown street car system , electric scooters and rental bikes . All of which are inexpensive alternatives to renting a car in Oklahoma City .
Bricktown OKC Transportation
The cost of the Oklahoma City Streetcar is $3 for a 24 hour pass and children under the age of 6 ride free.
Lime electric scooter rental is the local brand available . The cost of $1 to unlock and .15 cents per minute of your ride .
As mentioned above , much of the downtown Oklahoma City area is walkable, especially the bricktown district with sidewalks and trails available .

During our stay in Bricktown , we decided to stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites Oklahoma City – Bricktown using Hilton Honors Points.
The cost for a standard 2 Queen bed guest room was approximately $134 per night . This no frills hotel is perfect for spending one night in Bricktown because it is located within walking distance (a 5 minute walk or less) from all the attractions in the Bricktown neighborhood.
Guests of the hotel can enjoy free breakfast in the morning, free wifi and even an indoor pool for enjoyment year round. As mentioned, it is also surrounded by shops, restaurants and nightlife.

Centennial Land Run Monument
The Land Run Monument is located near the bricktown neighborhood in OKC near Outdoor World at Bass Pro Shop. This massive sculpture commemorates the opening of unassigned land in the Oklahoma Territory Land run of 1889 when Bricktown was established..
This cluster of statues shows men, women and children on their way to start a new life and a snapshot of their travel conditions when relocating to Oklahoma.
The park is open 24 hours a day and admission is FREE. I highly recommend making sure that it is a part of your itinerary when visiting the Bricktown Neighborhood or just after taking the Bricktown Taxi to the south end of the canal .
Brickopolis OKC
Brickopolis Oklahoma City is all of your childhood dreams come to life. The Brickopolis is a three story entertainment complex with games and attractions like mini golf, arcades and laser tag. Perfect for the entire family to enjoy and/or a date night/ fun night out.
On site, visitors can also dine or grab drinks at the bar. Brickopolis is located in central Bricktown. Plan to spend a couple of hours here alone.
- Bricktown Water Taxi
The Bricktown water taxi is located in the central area of the Bricktown District. The Water taxi has been in business since 1999 . Today, it is still one of the most iconic and popular Oklahoma City attractions.
The Taxi is a great unique way to explore the city or take a break from walking around the neighborhood.
The cost of the tour is $12 for adults and $9 for children. The ride is around 40 minutes long and the pick ups are every 30 minutes. Due to covid restrictions, it is recommended that guests purchase tickets in advance.
Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark
Did you know that Oklahoma City has a minor league baseball team?
At Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in the heart of the Bricktown OKC district, visitors can catch a baseball game like the locals during their 72 home games in the season between April and September of each year.
Be sure to check their website for updated ticket pricing and information on other events that take place in the ballpark.
- Ride OKC Bike Tour and Rentals
Ride OKC is an immersive tour experience that explores architecture, art and history around Oklahoma City. They offer a variety of tours from Art +Architecture, Bike +Brew, Custom tours and themed holiday excursions.
As a part of the Art and Architecture tour, The tour guide at Ride OKC will guide you through the Bricktown OKC neighborhood as you learn about the history and modern art displays in the area.
The cost of the Ride OKC bike tours start at $45 per rider. Bikes are also for rent to enjoy self guided tours and rides in the park. Children are welcome on the tour.

Fuzzy’s taco shop is a one stop taco shop to get Tex Mex tacos, burritos and bowls. While Fuzzy’s is not a locally owned restaurant or mom and pop, they have great menu options, indoor and outdoor dining and they are located centrally in Bricktown to grab a bite or pick up and have a picnic.
- Bricktown Brewery
If you are a craft beer lover or lover of great food, the Bricktown Brewery should make it on to your list. While we do not drink and cannot vouch for the Beer, we hear from locals that this local craft brewery is one of the best in Oklahoma city.
They offer a wide variety of tasty menu options and pride themselves on keeping their sourcing local to Oklahoma City. That way, guests can get a literal taste of the city and enjoy high quality and fresh food and drinks.
There are multiple locations across Oklahoma but this is one of the most popular.
- Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse
Mickey Mantle Steakhouse is noted as one of the best steakhouses in Oklahoma City. It is named after one of Oklahoma City’s great baseball players, Mickey Mantle.
The restaurant offers high quality steak and seafood dishes while guests are surrounded by live music and name sake memorabilia. All in all, it is one of the best options for upscale and authentic dining experiences in the Bricktown District.
- Texadelphia
Texadelphia is another great option in the area. They have mastered the unique mix of Philly cheesesteaks and local Texan favorites. The casual dining restaurant offers simple and affordable options and varieties of cheesesteak favorites. This is a good quick bite option for lunch.
- SONIC HEADQUARTERS
The Sonic Drive in company was founded originally as Top Hat Drive In located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Today, Sonic drive-in locations are popular across the United States, However, Oklahoma City is home to multiple locations of the Burger Joint.
One of Sonic’s only dine-in restaurants is located in the Bricktown neighborhood of OKC. Due to covid, the location is permanently closed. However, the headquarters still exists right next door and there are multiple locations of the restaurant open in the area to check out.
